1. Malarkey X Blackmagic: Introductory Micro Shorts - Eligible for the Audience Vote Award/Blackmagic Prize
This will be the opening portion of our event; curated ‘Introductory Micro-Shorts’. Guidelines for the intro micro-shorts portion (eligible for the audience vote prize) require that the submitted short film be 5 minutes or less in length and utilize at least one aspect of Blackmagic's DaVinci Resolve FREE software. Whether it be picture edit, audio edit, VFX or final deliverables. We will provide links to official Blackmagic Resolve tutorials to help aid first time Resolve users.
We encourage anyone, new to the program or pro users to submit to this FREE, ultra accessible category of our event.
PLEASE NOTE: If selected you will be required to show proof that you have used at least two facets of Blackmagic's DaVinci Resolve Software in the making of your Introductory Micro-Short.
2. Malarkey X Blackmagic: Open Submissions - Eligible for the Industry Vote Award/Blackmagic Prize
The films submitted in this category (15 minutes in length or less) are eligible to win our Industry Vote Award. This 'Open Submissions' Category can utilize Blackmagic's extensive range of cameras, equipment or software but it is NOT a requirement for this section. These films will be selected by our jury.
This category includes a low/sliding scale submission fee.

As of now we will be hosting virtually and the event will be free for all (suggested donation). We will be collecting donations throughout the entirety of our event and at the end of the festival 100% of collected donations will go to a local NYC initiative.
The event itself includes a live musical performance by an emerging NYC based artist, and a live award ceremony.
Prizes are Blackmagic Design products in both categories!

The Event

All selected films will be screened either virtually or at the Malarkey Film Festival event at 3 Dollar Bill, an inclusive queer bar and art space in Bushwick, Brooklyn NY. [Depending on COVID-19 CDC Guidelines at time of the event]. The event is a raucous celebration of your films followed by live music from an emerging NYC based artist, and an award ceremony with cinema-centric prizes.
Malarkey Film Festival is based in New York City, on the stolen, ancestral land of the Munsee-Lenape tribe. Our screening event typically takes places in Bushwick, Brooklyn which is the stolen, ancestral land of the Canarsie and Munsee-Lenape tribes.
AUDIENCE VOTE WINNER
Immediately following the screening, the audience votes on their favorite film of the evening, and we present the winners with their awards that same night.
INDUSTRY VOTE WINNER
For each festival, we will be having a film industry judge watch all selected films, choose their favorite, and write feedback for their selected winner. This feedback will be a part of the prize given to the winner of this category.
Malarkey Film Festival does not offer monetary prizes at this time.
Meet & Mingle + Resource Net

[In person or virtual, based on COVID-19 CDC Guidelines].
One of the benefits to The Malarkey Film Festival is the building of connections within New York City's film community and our international Malarkey Film Festival community. Prior to the screening itself, all selected filmmakers will be invited to a Meet & Mingle. Here, you can meet future collaborators and discuss your films over a glass of champagne. The Meet & Mingle is a space to get better acquainted with Malarkey's network of filmmakers.
Building community is important to us. We know that community itself is a fundamental and instrumental tool in pursuing work in the arts. Each festival includes a Resource Net, where selected filmmakers can share upcoming work, offer up their specialized skills, and find future collaborators.
